PANAMA CANAL GATUN LOCKS

The Panama Canal locks that raise the ships 25.9 m (85 ft) to the main elevation of the Panama Canal, was once one of the greatest engineering work at the time, eclipsed only by other stages of canal Project. There was no other concrete construction comparable in size to the construction of the Hoover Dam in the 30s. The total length of the lock structures, including access wall is 3 kilometers (nearly two miles).
